Is it possible to score too high on the written police officer exam? Do they only take the statistical median?

I have recently taken the written police officer exam and scored a 95. Everything that I read says that the police department will only take the top scoring applicants to move on to the next step. However, I have been hearing rumors that police departments only take applicants that have scored within a given range (80-89%). Does my higher score put me at any disadvantage? Thanks so much :)
