On June 2 2010 i have a farewell dance to go to and i have no clue how to do my hair?

i have darkish lightish brown hair shortish about to my shoulders im not sure how to do it im so confused plesse help like i had one idea which was to curl some of it and put that part up and straighten the other part and leave it down like a half hair thing if that makes sense but please helpp
