Not odd at all. Men who have trouble remembering exactly what they said the day they proposed can remember the words better by dropping to one knee, and just smelling a particular smell can evoke long-dormant memories of that smell (ex, smelling cinnamon at the mall might trigger a memory of Granny Helga's 'World-Famous' snickerdoodles that you hadn't had since you were 7, or something like that).
