How do you do proofs in logic?

I'm taking a 100- level logic cl in university and I have no idea how to hell to go about doing proofs. I was fine with all the material up until now. Now I feel like I'm going to fail the course (and this upcoming midterm) if I don't get the hang of this stuff. So far, we've been introduced to 8 valid argument forms of inference and 10 valid equivalence forms. I need help figuring out what to do and when to do it. I just don't know where to start with these problems.
